Host

Shantell Martin.

I’m Shantell Martin, an artist who’s spent my life following the twists and turns of a drawn line in its many forms, sometimes with clarity, sometimes with a lot of doubt. I work across a spectrum of fields from fine art, design, dance, education, and music, collaborating with incredible people along the way. From choreographing ballets to spending time at places like MIT Media Lab and NYU, my work has always been about asking big questions, about identity, creativity, and the messy, beautiful process of making something out of nothing.

But being an artist isn’t always easy. There are moments of joy and moments of struggle, times when I wonder, What’s the Point? That’s why I started this podcast—to have honest conversations with fellow artists about why we do what we do. Join me as I sit down with friends and creative minds to talk about art, process, and the reasons we keep making, even when it’s hard. Maybe together, we’ll get a little closer to an answer of WHY we become artists and what art is for.

Audio engineer

GRANT
PETERS.

I’m Grant Peters, a composer, music producer, and audio engineer based in rural Upstate New York. As a freelancer and creative consultant, I’ve worked with incredible artists like Shantell, Natasha Bedingfield, and Lilianna Wilde. Music has always been at the center of what I do. I manage a catalog of over two hundred songs that I license to independent artists, and I regularly create music for production libraries like Universal Production Music.

I’ve been collaborating with Shantell on her Present Word a live music series, and I produced the music for her vinyl BAD IDEAS. Now, I’m thrilled to be the engineer on What’s the Point, helping bring these conversations to life, one episode at a time.
